I'm both black and liberal and don't think anything this guy said in this email was racist. In fact, its the kind of demographic/psychographic consideration and analysis that all sports team owners engage in.
Would have been a completely different story if he suggested that black fans need to be reduced or kept out of the stadium, that would have obviously been racist. Nothing here is even remotely similar to Sterlings comments.
If anyone should be offended I would think it would be southern whites as his comments seem to make serious negative assumptions about them.
I live in Atlanta but am no sports fan but LOL
he did imply a lot~~~
Nothing racist here. There's something else going on. Also Silver's statement is pathetic.
He wanted out...pure and simple. The Hawks are in a bad basketball market. The South is a bad professional sports market as it is, and Atlanta is one of the worst even in that bunch.
If i had a billion dollars to throw around on a pro sports franchise, i'd never buy one South of the Mason-Dixon line. Those people give first priority to college sports, and that's all there is to it.
Yes, the Cowboys, Redskins, and maybe one or two other teams might be an exception, but that's only because of the overall popularity of pro football. An NFL owner can neglect his franchise and still make a fortune.
