Not surprising coming from a socialist, but this idea has been bandied about before--and it wouldn't be applied just to the super-rich, either. And, yes, it does constitute double-taxation.

Hold onto your wallets, folks.

Sanders is just having a wet dream because that type of legislation would never see the light of day.

While I support Sanders completely on this, you've highlighted the reason why it won't happen. There is a difference between a socialist, and a capitalist who happens to be a member of The Democratic Party. The difference is that The Democratic Party is, by definition, a capitalist political party. As such, it has always placed the interests of the wealthy and of corporate America above the interests of the citizens. Both Republicans and Democrats take all of the pieces of the pie. It's just that the Democrats leave a couple of extra crumbs. This allows them to glow in self-righteousness when comparing themselves to their Republican counterparts.

Why don't you create your own wealth instead of taking it from others? If you end up with enough to make you feel guilty just gave some away to those of your choosing.

I perceive a larger difference between the parties than you see, at present. The economically illiterate wing of the Democrat party is in the ascendancy, so the kind of magical thinking that socialism also requires is abundant in mainstream Dem thought. The thought that we can become better off by crushing usable vehicles, or spraying money around at random will promote growth, or that unicorns will bring the money necessary to push the minimum wage to $10 or $15 with no loss of employment, or that borrowing money from China to increase welfare benefits will make us more productive....it is a pretty short step from these kinds of things to belief that socialism could work.

All of the above are the primary reasons why I can not and will not vote for the democrat candidate for Montana Senator. She seems to be very in favor of "us against them class warfare", and I want nothing to do with it or her.
Everything she says further convinces me that she is a very scary female!
I do not want her representing me in the United States Senate!

Sanders presumed intent is to impose a wealth tax on the top .25. This would exclude all but Warren Buffet from your list. It targets $ billionaires, not millionaires, many of whom legally pay a lower income tax rate than the average tax payer.

Interestingly, it appears the Constitution does not preclude such a tax so long as it is allocated back to states based on population. California and Texas would make out well. Vermont, not so much.

This silliness is going no place fast. It is fun however, to watch people defend the wealth of super wealthy.

As an aside, incredible wealth is tied up in real estate which is taxed at the state/ municipal level.
