In WW2 local boards initially determined who got drafted by social class. Blacks and recent immigrants were drafted first. The wealthy not so much. Troops were segregated. The military found it necessary to accommodate ethnic differences, including language.
Newspapers that opposed the war or draft were quickly shut down by the federal government.
I find it very ironic considering that the military really didn't want black soldiers to begin with, and the few that were there (at the beginning of WWII) were relegated to worse treatment than enemy POWs.
I would not have gone to that war in any event. I would have also found a way to not be in Vietnam.

Fast forward to Vietnam Nam and those who did not want to serve and had the means, pursued and received education deferments and protested the war without risking anything.
Those with college degrees who enlisted were assigned preferred jobs. No front lines for them.
Even worse, some like Romney who did not want to serve demonstrated in support of both the war and the draft that manned it.
I'm sure the poster is speaking of poor youth that think life has thrown them the curve ball. You know the ones living at mom's house, using her insurance and getting food stamps to hang out on the beach. Way to many people think others in life owe them and it's those people who need to wake up and see the rest of us are paying taxes by working for a living.
