Good Point - you have to understand that "Democracy" (as we know it) has never really existed in this area of the world. Alliances are all about Survival. Most (not all ) "Middle East Christians" are Arabs by Law in the countries they live in. For instance - the TAIF Agreement in 1995 for Lebanon, included that ALL citizens of Lebanon were Arabs.
The people that live in this area have a totally different Reality than is commonly understood in Western Culture - it doesn't make any sense at all to assume they "think" or live as we do.
The main concern is to "Survive", and they do what they must (for the most part) to reach that goal.
