Please the left that has corrupted our public educational system for decades. It's about time conservatives start fighting back to take back our schools and universities.

A fight in Colorado over how United States' history is taught has pitted the new conservative majority on a suburban Denver school board against students and teachers who accuse the board of censorship.

Meh, you have no idea what's going on here in Colorado. I've noticed you tend to prefer the rags specializing in yellow journalism, so a snip from the New York Times may be a challenge for you, but give it the old school try (so to speak):

Quote:
Will history be rewritten by the winners?

That was the question parents and students were asking in school hallways, in online PTA forums and on boulevards up and down this suburban Colorado school district on Friday, a day after the school board’s conservative majority voted to change how the district reviews parts of its curriculum. It was the climax of an impassioned debate over censorship, academic freedom and what to teach students about American history.

After two weeks of student protests and a fierce backlash across Colorado and beyond, the Jefferson County School Board backed away from a proposal to teach students the “benefits of the free enterprise system, respect for authority and respect for individual rights,” while avoiding lessons that condoned “civil disorder, social strife or disregard of the law.” But the board did vote 3-to-2 to reorganize its curriculum-review committee to include students, teachers and board-appointed community members.
Under the above guidelines, students would be censored from learning about an upstart group of rabble and malcontents who broke the laws of the land as a matter of course and destroyed personal property to the cheers of their supporters. This group of social misfits and brigands fomented social strife and civil disorder by writing outraged diatribes and published them in the underground press of the time and even posted these things on the sides of both private and public buildings for the rest of civilized society to see. When the prevaiing authorities refused to make the changes demanded of them, this group of desperados (no doubt backed by the ACLU) put out the cry "To arms!" and aimed their rifles and handguns at the members of society charged with maintaining the status quo. They galluped around on midnight rides calling others to join them to fight in the streets and conserve their ammunition by not shooting until they saw "The white of the enemys' eyes."

Well, that takes care of the American Revolution. Let's move on to the Civil War, fought in large part because of the "civil disorder" and "social strife" caused by the slavery system. Oh, I mean the "welfare queen" system.

If you think such strictures on learning the facts of history are the best way to teach US history to the children in your state, you go, Mr. Gretsky. Go to your local school board meeting and put your money where your foot is. However, Colorado will thank you to kindly keep your ignorant ideas to yourself.

Yours from the Centennial State,
Colorado Rambler

I think what they are getting at is they will not teach about the garbage that happened in MO or elsewhere. Where minorities wreck their neighborhoods.

Was it not history? Why not tell people about the riots in la? As long as the why, the who, and the where is fully explained from both sides, why not teach these historical events? Social strife and resistance to authority is the American way. What about when the national guard fired on protesters in Ohio?

No, teaching history means you teach the good, the bad, and the ugly.

It is Rich, to even think this school board, or any public education is conservative.

If it were Conservative, it would not be a public school.... I thought that was the stereotype placed on Conservatives.

Speaking of which, I wonder if private education has pulled the horrible past and sugarcoated the world?

Default The other point.

I think and hope that most school boards want to do the right thing. Moving away from and educating our child the Good History and the bad is part of the educational process.

We moved from a divided country during the Civil War and thru the civil rights era supported by Rep. with President Johnson. to Educated and respected Black Americans of today.

We Doctors (Dr. Carson, States women Like Condi Rice to respected Athletes.

In the end I think this is more important ,instead of over review of the War Between the States.
