This event should surprise no one with a rudimentary knowledge of Pakistani affairs. It is difficult to understand how Bhutto survived as long as she did.

The family has a history of sudden death, but one often takes both life and its living almost casually when motivated by cause. In Bhutto's case, and based solely on second hand accounts, she knew she was at risk, and took it nonetheless. But like other assassinations, foretelling and actuality differ widely.

There's a strange news update coming out of Pakistan today. I heard a doctor (I assume he's in some official capacity) that PM Bhutto was not shot at all; rather, in attempting to avoid the gun shots, hit her head on the sunroof of the vehicle she was in.

That's pretty flukey.

I'm just absolutely devastated. It was going to happen eventually, but it's not something you expect to wake up to. For me, it was as if I had woken up to hear that Eleanor Roosevelt was killed as Benazir Bhutto has been one of my heroes since I was a child and she was ousted for the 2nd time.

I'm a little wary of blaming it on Al-Queda. It just seems strange to me that they would wait a full day before claiming responsibility. Maybe I'm just wrong and that's how they've operated in the past, I don't know.

I've heard accounts that she told others many times that she knew that she would die but it was only a matter of when and where. She gave her life knowingly to her cause. I may not agree with everything she has done, but she did it all the way through.

I felt the wind knocked out of me when I heard the news. Whether you liked her or not - that is not germaine but what is, is what she represented to Pakistan, the US, etc. and the much needed voice that she provided.

Bhutto was just as big a crook as any other Pakistani politician. The reason we supported her was because she was kissing our butt at this time.
