Keep in mind that the driving force behind the internment program was the then-governor of California, Earl Warren, another liberal saint. Many scholars believe that it was guilt over his overt racism that drove Warren to support the efforts of civil rights activists in the Brown decision.

Keep in mind as well that Affirmative Action was largely the product of Richard Nixon's administration.

There is plenty of guilt and pride to go around, regardless of one's self-affixed label..

Well, one thing to keep in mind: Anti-Japanese sentiment and outright racism became totally OK in mainstream America after Pearl Harbor. Not saying it was a good thing, but it was a different world then. Do a Google search for anti-Japanese comics during that time. Here's a famous one:

Jolly shame a supposed great President and humanitarian was given to the most bigoted of impulses and felt no shame in locking up hundreds of thousands of innocent people.

But hey, he was a Progressive.

btw the comic, crude though it was, is poking fun at a Japanese soldier, not some shopkeeper from Seattle.

The USC has only been amended thirty-three times. Some did great good, others great harm with Prohibition standing out for the latter. Thus it has become clear to many that the process should be reserved only for the most urgent needs.

Despite how worked up many in this country have gotten over various issues including most recently same sex marriage mob rule did not win the day and thus no amendment to the USC.

The Japanese attacked us and we went over the line in retaliation? Sounds familiar.
