LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles Unified School District police officials are considering whether they need the armored vehicle and grenade launchers they received from the U.S. military.
The military hardware at the disposal of LAUSD police officers includes a 20-foot-long, 14-ton armored transport vehicles, much like the ones used to move Marines in Iraq combat zones. The armored vehicle is worth $733,000, and the school district’s police force got it from the government for free.

They'll never use it. Free? I'm sure the military replaced it with a new million dollar unit... keep them dollars rollin. Meanwhile it looks as if the state is going to war with someone..

Unacceptable. A school district has no reason for a grenade launcher.

Like they just "received them"....they had to apply via DHS/Pentagon grants.

And people thought only the police were getting military gear.
There are school districts out there geared to combat an outright invasion.
But it's all to "protect the kids".

Sounds more like getting the kids used to seeing military equipment in their daily lives.

Come on now, why not a grenade launcher, armored personnel carrier, flame thrower, and other so called "free" stuff from the federal government.

This is after the fact. They have them. The ACLU has sued to find out just who has all these military weapons.
Guess what..the DHS and Pentagon don't track that stuff (or so they say).

Bearcats, MRAPS, full camo gear, rifles, shotguns, semi-automatic.
Whatever the military has they do too now.

People wanted to be safe and this is what they got.

If they don't want it, they can let me know I will be happy to fly out and take it home with me.

Oh there's probably a reason behind the madness.
Remember we can't actually put military troops all geared up on our streets.
So we militarize local outfits instead.
