We always got dessert too when we finished our dinner. And on the very, very rare occasion one of us refused to eat something, he had to sit at the dinner table until bedtime, and then whatever was left uneaten was breakfast. Food was never thrown away.
I'm so glad that my mother realized that as a child I wouldn't like everything that she liked. I was told to try everything and decide if I liked it or not. I hated lima beans, she loved them. She would cook them and didn't force me to eat them. There were other foods she liked that I didn't. I just had more of whatever else was on the table. I did the same with my daughter and she does the same with my grandson.
Did you like everything you were forced to eat? When did you get to choose what you liked and didn't like, when you moved out of the house?
Yeah, because requiring that you kids eat their veggies (which really isn't that hard to do if you start out right and are consistent) is the same as being a lunatic and beating children with wire hangers.

There are different forms of abuse. Punishing a child to force them to eat something they don't like is, IMO, non-violent abuse.

Since when are taxpayers required to pay for unhealthy food for kids? That makes no sense. It's government food, it should be healthy. If their parents want them to be fat, they're free to stuff them with cake and candy themselves.

What is healthy to a 4' 9 103lb female isn't necessarily healthy for a 6' 3 210lb male.
In other threads it's noted that he can bring food from home. That is exactly what more and more seem to be doing and the lunch programs are failing.
