It must be disappointing for faithful Tea Party supporters who fought so hard for the right to keep Medicare spending at astronomical levels for the last month and last two years of life. Back in 2009 Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann attacked "Death Panels" and fought for keeping Medicare spending as it is $50 billion for the last month of life and $200 Billion for the last two years. The Tea Party effectively cut out any funding for End Of Life counseling and kept the Medicare health care gravy train rolling. Hospitals, Insurance, Physicians, and everyone in the Medicare pipeline loved it. Now the Tea Party has another call to arms as it appears Obama and Medicare want to fund End Of Life Counseling. .Tea Party.Org has already come out against End Of Life Counseling at want to keep the status quo with taxpayer paying up to $55,000 per year keeping medicare recipient alive in their last two years of life. Does anyone still believe the Tea Partiers are fiscal conservative? .They support the war in the mid-east and they fight any cuts to Medicare? Defense and Medicare are two of the three biggest budget items.
Only Tea Party idiots believed that 30 minutes with your doctor discussing your end of life plans/instructions, including documents, means some one is going to kill you involuntarily.

What Tea Party idiots thought there might be in there isn't.

This is an interesting subject but I can see the odds of it being honestly discussed is low. What is now being discussed is the government saying, no, we will not pay for your treatment. Not some nice chat with your doctor.
It's inevitable and unavoidable and there is no reason to avoid the discussion. (or lie about it)

The government has always done that. So have private insurance companies.
Medicare funding for end of life counseling is a really good and necessary idea. I was and am disappointed the Tea Party got that killed.
Way too many people get the "full bore" treatment amounting to huge bills and much suffering for nothing in their last days. I had to step in from another state to stop this from happening to my grandmother back in NY and get her switched to palliative care, and she passed away before the transfer anyway because she was so sick. They had a laundry list of surgeries lined up too.
It isn't a "death panel" they want to "manage your end of life care"
It's a meeting where your wishes and their consequences are discussed with a medical professional. They also go over aging in your home, what your family can expect, needed assistance with ADL's, etc.
People naturally put this off and it's a talk that need to be had.

There are Cancer Treatments that cost $100,000 and best case, extend a terminal patient's life by 3-4 weeks compared to no late stage treatment. This is unsustainable, especially given that 10,000 people a day are turning 65 and will continue to do so for the next 20 years.
