Did Chicago really say that out loud and think it would be okay? I'm just saying, better off going for an elementary school, you know, and cut off the late night show wisecracks before they start.
The negative criticism received by Rahm Emanuel has nothing to do with the name.
"Mayor Rahm Emanuel backed off Thursday from naming a new elite high school after President Barack Obama amid ongoing criticism from African-Americans who felt the honor inappropriate for a school slated for a wealthy, predominantly white part of the Near North Side. Instead of naming the new school after his former boss, the mayor indicated he would consider other names for the selective enrollment high school set to be built near the site of the former Cabrini-Green public housing project just northwest of downtown."
Now that's just silly. The term racism is constantly coming up these days, but by saying a school that is mostly white can't be named after a black person, it really only makes that appear racist. What does it matter? There are schools named after Hoover that have a large black population; never once heard anyone say 'but Hoover was white.'
I'm just saying that if we want racism gone, something like this can't happen. Obama is president for Americans, not a specific race of Americans. Besides, he's technically only half black. If it must be based on race, you'd want a school that is a solid mix.

So What. Believe me before it is all said and done President Obama will have Streets, Schools, Parks and Highways named after him, and it will drive the Cons crazy for many years to come, GOOD

They will be the places avoided by white people or anyone fearing for their safety. It was Chris Rock that joked that most crime in America was committed on "Martin Luther King Boulevard" in any city.

You are misreading this. The people are complaining that any school named after Obama should be in a community that is majority BLACK. It should not be in the WHITE part of town.
You shouldn't name anything after an in-office politician. A local school was named after a close to retirement trustee who was shortly after charged with corruption - and the school had to be renamed. Were there any Richard M. Nixon Highs?
Isn't it proper protocol to name something after a POTUS after he has left office? Maybe these deluded clowns truly believe he is a king or.... messiah. They probably want to get his name on the building before he is impeached.
How many MLK Blvds does this country need? Why one in every stinking city? Merely because he was black? What did he do besides give a historical speech?
Obama will get the same treatment and I find it no less ofensive than erecting a mosque within eyesight of Liberty Plaza in NYC.
Common Core High would be more appropriate for the choom meister.
