I recently moved to USA for my husbands job as an engineer for couple of years. I was shocked that stores are open on Sundays in this country when Americans are known for being religious in general and very Christian nation. Why is it like that?
In Norway and most of Europe it's impossible to find any shop open on Sunday.. Our workers also like a day of rest. I wasn't expecting this. Or maybe it's regional thing only?
The US is more secular now. Few stores are closed on Sunday anymore.
Few stores are closed even on national holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The "consumer" rules here with stores open 24/7/365.
Hobby Lobby is one of the only big stores that are closed on Sundays.
It was once very common for shops to close on Sundays, but as American society has become more and more about money money money, stores were forced to start operating seven days a week to keep up with their competitors. It's the same reason Christmas sales start earlier every year. That's the sad truth. As with most things in America, it comes down to money and greed.
I could not imagine living anywhere and telling people that their government should control when stores are open.
Why not? The government dictates dozens of other things to businesses every day. Not saying it's right or wrong, but with all the regulations we live with, I don't know why mandating business hours would really be so shocking. Blue laws aren't that far in our past. I can remember when I couldn't buy alcohol in Indiana on Sundays.

There is already Christmas stuff in the stores and it's only Sept.
I was just shopping yesterday and saw it.
Because our national, state and local governments, have taken over the role of GOD, for many.
You have to feed your god and a sunday of busy bees, brings in more revenue for the nation, state and local governments.
I think it is more like our retailers and the corporations have taken the role of GOD in the US.
The beauty of it is you have the freedom to NOT go to the store on Sunday if you believe Sunday is some special day. While I, someone who believes Sunday is just another day on the calender, can go buy just aboutr anything I want on Sunday.

Money is worshiped in the US more than religion.
