Obama White House forcing new gun buyers to declare race, ethnicity - Washington Times
The Obama administration quietly has been forcing new gun buyers to declare their race and ethnicity, a policy change that critics say provides little law enforcement value while creating the risk of privacy intrusions and racial profiling.

With little fanfare, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in 2012 amended its Form 4473 — the transactional record the government requires gun purchasers and sellers to fill out when buying a firearm — to identify buyers as either Hispanic, Latino or not. Then a buyer must check his or her race: Indian, Asian, black, Pacific Islander or white.

The amendment is causing a headache for gun retailers, as each box needs to be checked off or else it’s an ATF violation — severe enough for the government to shut a business down. Many times people skip over the Hispanic/Latino box and only check their race, or vice versa — both of which are federal errors that can be held against the dealer.

Requiring the race and ethnic information of gun buyers is not required by federal law and provides little law enforcement value, legal experts say. And gun industry officials worry about how the information is being used and whether it constitutes an unnecessary intrusion on privacy.
I love the part that says "to identify buyers as either Hispanic, Latino". Really now? Tolerant Democrats at it again, LOL.
That sucks. I never tell my friends what color I am. I keep them guessing.

Is...is this for real?

This is a box that has been on the form for awhile and was supposed to be enforced when put in. All they are doing is enforcing the regulation that was ignored before which shouldn't have been. It's correcting a mistake.

The fact that nutty people seem to think this is some civil war starting move is insane.

and spot on.

This should be the end this thread. Nothing to see here.

I guess they think it's important to keep track of what ethnicities purchase guns legally so they know which ones get theirs through theft or the black market.

It's ironic that nowhere in this thread do the words "civil" or "war" appear - until your post.

Was it the voices in your head putting that thought into your mind? Or do you just imagine things like this on a regular basis?

I'm glad I live in a state that doesn't deny my right to purchase a gun from a private party without a government permission slip. If I have a problem with the 4473, I can just buy used (and often do).

Mitt Romney could've checked "Hispanic/Latino" and gotten away with it since his father was born IN Mexico while George's mom and dad were resident probably legal aliens. Tho la raza and many extreme "libs" would've raised a stink over that. lol

They don't need to know what someone's ethnicity/race is to buy a gun.

For what type of categorization would this matter?

So for instance they have zero registration from asians, that means they can profile all asians with guns that they didn't register them legally?

Same garbage different day.

The feds are the biggest race baiters in the nation.

It wouldn't. You're correct about the race-baiters. I just have a subtle streak.
