I watched the interview and I think France has the right idea. Stop giving IS any legitimacy by referring to these barbarians by the name they choose to be called - IS.

Quote:
“In French they want to be called État Islamique, Islamic State, but it’s a double mistake,” Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour in an interview that aired Tuesday. “A, they are not a state; they would like to be a state but they are not. And they are not representative of Muslims.”

“We call them Daesh, by the Arab word.”

“Daesh” is a term reportedly despised by the militants, because it sounds like another Arabic word that means “to trample on” or “crush.”

“You have to name things correctly,” Fabius said. “These guys are murderers; they are throat cutters.”
Taking measures:

Quote:
“We decided that the government, the administration, would be able to suspend not only passport but also ID for people whose intention is to go to Syria.”
As for paying ransom, if they do, I guess they think saving one life is worth it. Ransom is not just in the form of money. In spite of the US declaring it won't pay a ransom, the US paid a ransom of 5 terrorists to save one life (Bergdahl, which people wonder if it was worth it).

Why France refuses to call militants

Here is a link explaining how ISIL went to ISIS and then to IS to Daesh.

Isis vs Islamic State vs Isil vs Daesh: What do the different names mean

Quote:
The undefined region around Syria is historically referred to as the Levant (an archaic French phrase for the “lands of the rising sun”), including modern-day Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine and Jordan.

The Obama administration has said that it uses the acronym Isil as it believes the word “Levant” to be a more accurate translation from the Arabic name.
Why does Obama and this administration insist on calling them ISIL? Maybe he and his ilk should refer to them as Daesh or anything else that doesn't give them credibility? They don't even refer to themselves as ISIL any longer, or doesn't he know that?

Apparently the administration knows more about Arabic translation than Arabs do and has no idea what countries make up the Levant, and Iraq is not one of them. Maybe the terrorists realized their mistake when they dubbed themselves ISIL and changed it to ISIS (Syria and Iraq)?
