High school math logic proof:

Terror = extreme fear (dictionary definition)

Therefore,

War on Terror = War on Extreme Fear

.....how does one declare war on an emotion?
.....how does one defeat an emotion?
.....are we close to victory yet?

You've been duped. Thirteen years going strong!

You will never win a war on terrorism, poverty, drugs. They are by their very nature a war on mankind. If you declare these types of wars and are serious about winning them. Then you must kill every human on the planet to be sure you have won. The last man alive might just sit down and smoke a joint savoring the victory. We can't have that. Not if we want to win.

I made this statement on another thread but it is most appropriate here.

Most of us understand that it means a war on terrorism.

noun: terrorism

the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.

Most also have the further more complete understanding that it refers to a war on Islamic Terrorists/jihadists. This is too uncomfortable for some to say, so we're left with the kind of word game nonsense in the OP that completely dodges the reality of the situation so we can talk about things that feel a little better.

It just indicates how weak we are.

You'll never stop all terrorism--because in some ways terrorism can prove effective in drawing attention to a cause if nothing else. It took over 50 years to get the Basque separatists ETA to give up terrorism for good--and that's a relatively peaceful area of Spain for the most part(though the group killed over 850 to 1000 people since the 1960s). As long as there's angry people(and there's always anger about something) and the means to inflict violence you have the possibility that people are going to resort to violence. The Kurds are well liked these days as an ally against ISIS, but they've supported Kurdish terrorists in Turkey who've attacked civilians in the name of separatism.

We can defeat specific terrorist groups in the short term, we can contain and destroy criminal groups that seize territory like ISIS, but you'll never defeat "terror". No more than you could declare war on "war". You can increase security and intelligence and disrupt or dismantle terrorist threats or go in for a military response against the extremist--but in the long run you might have to also address the underlying reasons the groups exists--or not get involved.

It was this sort of logic that led to the creation of the color-coded terror warnings. The only way to succeed was to keep people afraid.

Which scares you more the War on Drugs, War on Poverty, War on Terror, or the War on Women?
