If the name, Redskins, weren't a reverement of indians, the team would not have chosen that name to revere itself.

What kind of name that would revere indians would be acceptable to all indians?

Come on indians, throw it out there!

^This. Teams choose mascots that they view as something to be revered and respected. Why else would they call themselves that? The Redskins took that name out of respect, but our PC culture get so upset about particular words that this gets lost in the discussion.

Funny how the Tea Partiers gleefully ran liberal Howard Stern off the air selectively censoring and fining him using the FCC but suddenly hate the organization. Guess its not the "good" type of censorship they like that throws racial slurs around freely.

Next, the gays will complain that no one will name their team after gays.

Many imperialists think the indians were losers.

Would a team name itself The Losers?

No - They would name themselves the Chicago Cubs.

Veer off just a little, and you could have the San Francisco Happies.

That would cover a lot of area.

The FCC that tangled with Stern was largely during the Clinton Administration.

The Tea Party did not exist then.

What are you talking about?

The tomahawk chops aren't nearly as inciting as what some consider to be a racial term. Same with the Cleveland Indians. The complaint was more over the logo than the actual name or identity itself.

And just a question... do you people realize that when the name was chozen, it was during the 1930s? A time when performing in blackface and over exaggerating the features of non-white or non-American people were common? That doesn't exactly work now a days. And no, it's not a 'PC' thing. It's more an evolution thing.

I hate to interrupt your tea party derangement syndrome episode here. Stern went off the air in 2005 , there was no tea party movement
