None are so hopelessly enslaved as those who believe that they are free. We are the "land of the free", that is free to beg the State to let us keep any shred of freedom that we are naturally entitled to, and then have the State plant its boot upon our throat laughing at us for being such silly "subjects". We have a GODvernment not a government.

Unless you're an anarchist, agorist, voluntaryist, etc. who doesn't believe anyone is your master or your slave. We don't buy the idea that societal organization requires someone bossing us around and taking our money.

However, I agree with you that almost all people would rather give up their freedom for the illusion of safety.

Proof that a person can be a liberal, and still believe in a smaller less intrusive government. The stereotypical JFK Democrat!

I fear you may be correct, but I pray you're wrong. It reinforces my libertarian beliefs.

Here is more on the topic. A lot of this is driven by the war on drugs which LE obsesses over. That coupled with greed.

You really should watch at least some of the Channel 5 video. It is so obvious that these cops are legalized crooks that they don't even hide it.

John Oliver and John Stewart are probably two of the most hard-hitting journalists speaking truth to power in the US today. And that fact should scare the hell out of us.

I think that after NSA scandal, the notion of "land of free", freedom of speech, freedom of press and individual liberties has evaporated a long time.
