Why are you more concerned about the decade-old actions of one political party but not concerned with the current actions of another on the very same topic?
This is the most important response on this thread. I know this because it showed no aggression or extreme bias and offered a well reasoned question and because of this, it was completely ignored.

A political party can't 'apologize.' It's not a conscious being. It's an organization that will sponsor individuals with certain political ideologies. Ideologies can shift within a party. Just because 10 years ago, homosexuality was extremely taboo does not mean a party needs to apologize for anything. They changed their stance with the presence of new information and political opinion/activism.
And since you feel those who did not indefinitely support gay marriage, why are you not asking both parties to apologize? The Dems used to do it, and the Republicans are still doing it. Why is one doing it in the past worse that one still doing it?
Good. The next step is for the 32 Democrat Senators and 118 Democrat congressmen who voted for it to apologize. I want them to acknowledge their bigotry and apologize to America.
First off, have you checked out each one of them that voted for DOMA if they have already apologized for it? Seems you missed Clinton's apology.
Also, should the 223 House Republicans and the 53 Republican Senators also apologize? Without their votes, DOMA would have never passed Congress.
They certainly do deserve an apology after, at least in some cases, the Democrat party infringed on their right to marry. Democrats need to be called out on their bigotry and apologize.
Because Republicans fully supported gay rights???
Or because the world is changing, Democrats are on board with the changes regarding gay rights, and Republicans are not on board?
It has been a stunning reversal of public opinion and not just among democrats, but across the political spectrum. It is almost unfathomable that a mere six years ago California, of all places, banned SS marriage by popular vote. Republicans would be wise not to make this a dem vs. rep issue. Surveys show that 80% of voters under 30 support the right to SS marriage and most feel strongly about it. That is a demographic that should not be ignored.
I'm not going to read through this so I may be repeating a point already made. They were not anti-gay. They were by and large anti-gay marriage. Most knew it wasn't a principled position but rather one they had to take at the time to get elected.
