What, like blowing your brains out and leaving your loved ones to clean up the mess? Having them find you hanging in a closet? Or bleeding out in a tub? What about jumping in front of a train, traumatizing all who have to witness or clean it up?

No, taking a few pills surrounded by your loved ones is sucking people into it.

I support the right to suicide, PERIOD!
It is a personal choice, and none of the governments business. Not is it the business of "SOCIETY"!
It is the ONLY "crime" that can be punished if unsuccessful, but not punished if successful.
Many primitive tribes have the ability to just "turn themselves off", so I have read. I envy them.

You don't need a doctor or anyone else to take a few pills .

Yes. I support it.

And why must every topic jump to the Nazis somehow?

You need a doctor to prescribe the pills needed to have a quick, painless death rather than an overdose where you drown in your own vomit.

Why because for the NAZIS those who were disabled or burden were dispensable. By legalizing physician suicide we're entering a slippery slope.

Cancer patient Brittany Maynard, 29, has scheduled her death for Nov. 1 - The Washington Post
It should be a persons right to chose the manner of their death in such situations. BTW: Doctors do this every day in hospitals around the country, they can prolong life for far longer than is warranted and often the choice is simply to let the person pass away, it is a form of assisted death. Never forget that no one is leaving this planet alive, we all will die at some point or another, a person should be able to avoid a long and painful death if that is their wish, it is our lives and no one else should be able to force a person to suffer. We do not make animals suffer, heck we would consider that to be cruel, yet some believe humans have less of a right to make the choice for themselves, kinda sad when you think about it.

if nature was kind, every death would be peaceful. But it is not, and nature has given humankind a big brain that can extrapolate what's happening in the present to what will happen in the future. Maybe some of our brother animals can do it too, but from what I know, the rest of the kingdom we share has no idea that death is inevitable. They simply live until life is no longer possible.

I only recounted half of this woman's sad tale.
Her brain cancer metastasized from breast cancer. She was diagnosed with breast cancer 4 years ago when she was 7 months pregnant with her second child, and could receive no treatments as the baby would die. And the baby was a week late in coming.
By the time she could be treated, she was already doomed. But, fighter that she is, she didn't give up, even though she suffered a double mastectomy, full hysterectomy, 2 rounds of chemotherapy followed by radiation therapy, the last resort.
She had no vices, and she was always healthy, but her mother carries the breast cancer gene. Her mother got it and was cured almost 40 years ago, and so did my sister-in-law. She too is now cancer free.

The most tragic part of all is her youngest son has never known her as a well woman. The greatest mercy her kids have received is they're now living with one of her husband's brothers and his family, so they were spared this last misery.

I have no fear of death. I'm willing to accept a hard death as much as an easy death, but my idea of hell would be dying of ALS or MS, where my mind is still good to the end but I'm trapped in a body that can't end it when I decide I've had enough.

If such a thing happens, I sincerely hope some kind person will assist me in a quicker departure than unplugging all the tubes and letting me die from dehydration or starvation. As I see it, that's not mercy at all. I hope that when my time comes, someone else won't have to go to prison for allowing me some final kindness, accomplishing what I can no longer do myself.

As a free man in a free country, I deserve the right to keep my liberty to the end, and so does everyone else. We all should be allowed to choose as we want from beginning to end. A little help should not be a crime if it follows my wishes and preserves my freedom.

I support assisted suicide as well.

If someone is in too much pain, it should be their right to end it.

Glad to see that most posters here, no matter their political leanings, are in agreement that one should be able to chose the manner of their own death under such awful circumstances, hopefully one day the laws of the land will be updated to conform to the actual will of the People. Those that disagree with the idea are within their rights to state how they feel and no one is forcing you to take that step, but if for some reason this or another such similar situation came into your life, would you not at least hope that you had the choice if you so decided it was the best path?
