They brought order to the desolate radical Middle East and (at least for their time) and would be an "evil you know" instead of bands of suicidal extremists who want everyone, even their own religion, to suffer. If groups like ISIS tried to cause such chaos they would have put them down quickly and swiftly.

Go back further to '53...we put this in motion by overthrowing an elected government in Iran. The implications are earth shattering and cataclysmic...As you can see.

That's why Americans sound silly complaining about radical Islam. We're the main protagonists in this saga.

The Shah could have just ordered the ISIS leaders executed. Pretty easy solution to me.

ISIS has a long ways to go before it even reaches Saddam's level of murder. Just looking at beheadings;Saudi's executed 80 people this year by this methods last count I heard. Even the French used this method of execution until 1951 as I recall. I don't think depending on methods Hitler used to eliminate your enemies even by others makes much sense in end. One has to look further at colonial rule to see why we have such hate in the world. Doesn't make it excusable but at least more understandable.

In almost ALL situations the American govt is the protagonist and that is a true statement...what I have never understood is why? Is it to keep the machine running and money being made? World dominance? Both?

If the US govt would have stayed out of everyone elses trouble and minded our own business there is no telling where we would all be now...spend money on cures for disease, education, manufacturing, incentives to inventors etc etc...instead most of it has went to extruded powder, aircraft and ship fuel and wasted lives.

The world running the world doesn't come out so good for America.

America running the world doesn't seem to either.

If Saddam was good for us why did we spend a trillion dollars taking him down?
