Right. Keep the conservative wing of the Republican party pure. Soon you've be able to hold your meetings in the small banquet room at the back of the local Holiday Inn. You won't need a convention center.

Mohawkx hit the nail on the head.

Here in Pennsylvania, our Republican Governor Corbett is falling all over himself trying to pick up some Independent and Democratic voters ... promising more money for public schools and public transportation, pushing for pro-gay rights legislation, etc. He's still trailing the Democrat.

Or maybe...just maybe...the independents don't believe him. Look being moderate enough to gain the independent vote doesn't guarentee you success if the other person is doing it as well, it just means you have a chance. NOT doing it and only getting your parties votes only works if your party is in the majority.

"Moderate" has become a meaningless term, because all it means today is that there are candidates even further to the left, on the looniness fringe.

Huntsman is no moderate, by any formerly reasonable definition of the word. Problem is - a generation and a half of the younger set in today's America's has grown up drowning in left wing garbage that would make our founders skin crawl. So they'll never understand how far we've drifted from true moderation.

Huntsman is about 10 light-years to the left of JFK and would have been laughed out of of either party in his time.

As long as the GOP panders to the populist wing of the party and mocking their own who do not conform to the blustering hard right wingers, they will continue to lose elections. Meanwhile, the Democrats can keep putting up ridiculously unqualified candidates and the country will continue to spiral.
