And “Ronan Farrow Daily,” the network’s heavily promoted new afternoon show, which stars a 26-year-old Rhodes Scholar with a high-profile Hollywood lineage, has been largely a dud.

Though it has mostly happened quietly, which may be a comment on the cable network’s larger status in the media landscape, MSNBC has seen its ratings hit one of the deepest skids in its history, with the recently completed third quarter of 2014 generating some record lows.

Phil Griffin, the president of MSNBC, acknowledged that his network had been struggling..."

msnbc failing as a cable station and a propaganda machine, that's bad.

Question is who has been paying the bills for the past 6 years?

Its nothing that mass firings of on air staff and hiring new producers couldn't fix. Much of the MSNBC wanted viewers migrated to Comedy Central to get their news. God help us, no wonder the country is such a mess. The US population is at risk of becoming as out of touch and cognitively challenged as our leaders.

Social media is replacing cable news. Why depend on cable news for the latest when you have a newsfeed that updates you in real time. Not to mention that people are politically fatigued. There's nothing exciting about this election cycle. Hilary Clinton no longer has the allure she had 6 plus years ago.

MSNBC sucks..They need to clean the rooms out,put on fresh paint and replace the "news" slots...As a person with a conservative like liberal outlook,,I find it insulting..It's ok to have a leaning be it conservative to liberal but they twist the liberal side to death,,like it's a war they have to win,,,that isn't news,it's gutter trash....designed for the truly ignorant audience. SpongeBob has more integrity.

^^ This. BSNBC caters to the radical Left who are mostly young eager beavers with no real world knowledge or experience, so they're easier to indoctrinate.

But the young don't watch TV let alone news channels. Therefore, ratings disaster.

Everybody and anybody who pays a cable bill is subsidizing MSNBC. That's why cable shows in general can survive such lousy ratings. If they were on broadcast network instead of basic cable they would have been cancelled and off the air years ago because broadcast TV is highly dependent on advertising (i.e. ratings) which cable is not.

Various political theories notwithstanding, the reason MSNBC would suffer ratings decline is that because they are part of liberal white noise. Fox News may be partisan to the right, but it's kind of out there alone in TV land in that respect. Everything else slants left to some degree or another, which is why one more network regurgitating the same left wing bias of a few hundred networks/affiliates/newspapers/magazines is just a bit more white noise. It gets drowned out by others doing the same thing, just better.

No VRWC here. MSNBC is just a perfect of example of what happens to inferior products in saturated markets.

The White House is footing the bill so ratings don't really matter. When Obama's term is over, so will MSNBC's. Maybe even before then if the Republicans can get their act together after they take back the Senate and impeach him.

TV ratings count viewers. They don't count fans.

They are all doing stories on what the opinion jockeys say on another channel. And it's not just Fox News watching MSNBC and MSNBC monitoring Fox News. Liberal groups like Media Matters are watching Fox News and conservative sites like the Media Research Center are watching MSNBC. I'd bet $5 that a chunk of Fox News viewers, for example, are not fans but someone assigned to watch them/monitor them by a liberal media outlet or opposition political groups. The thing is, there are more liberal outlets. So, because there are more of them and because Fox News has no conservative TV news competition, they have higher ratings.
