If the purpose is in effective in one area, is it logical to assume the purpose lies in another?

And here is my thought. The PROPOSED or claimed purpose of gun control is to reduce gun crime, that is, crime committed using a gun. Be that robbery, murder, assault, etc. I'm not one that thinks there is some nefarious shadow government bent on disarming the citizens of this country so it can ensue a big brother like 1984 rule over us all. Because they're doing just fine with that agenda even BEFORE gun control became a major issue. Literally. Guns have not suppressed even ONE tiny bit of horrible legislation, guns haven't even been a FACTOR in any of the pieces of bile that have been brought over us in the past....30 years? So yeah, maybe gun control is an attempt to reduce gun crime, presumably by making it harder for specific demographics of people to own a gun.
Or, there can be it plot of the NRA?
the purpose of gun control is in fact the control of the population. the powers that be in government are doing everything they can to take away the freedoms in this country, so that the people have to look to government to solve their problems. this gives our "elected" officials more power that they can grab from the people.

remember that when the government fears the people, the people are free. when the people fear the government, the people are subservient to the government they fear.

Are you being completely disingenuous, or just totally ignorant on the topic? Go try and buy a full auto firearm, you can't do it in WA.

How about CA?
BREAKING: CA Gov. Brown Bans More Handguns By Signing AB 1964 - The Truth About Guns

Or NY?
Gov. Cuomo signs gun control bill making New York first state to do so since Newtown school massacre - NY Daily News

Next I'm sure you're going to utter the complete outright lie "no one wants to ban guns"

I suppose as long as someone can buy a single shot 410 shotgun somewhere in the country you'll argue that "guns aren't banned".

The liberals support gun control, or outright banning, to make them feel safer. The plutocrat segments of the conservatives support gun control to keep the lower classes disarmed. In both cases them that have want to keep guns away from them that don't.

Why do you think it is so hard for a black man to get a CCL, when it is not the conservatives that want to make a constitutional right, a privilege??
