this thread is about news on the unemployed (and hence, the u3/u6/etc)
Actually the thread was started with a story about initial jobless claims. Which is different from u3/u6/etc.

Notice: Data not available: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

meanwhile we have just barely caught back up to 2008

2008 Jan 138.3 million people employed
2014 jul 139.0 million people employed (july is the last FINAL figures, aug and sep are still listed as preliminary with 139.4) .......LESS THAN 1 MILLION
Bureau of Labor Statistics Data

meanwhile the population has grown by 12 million

DONT LET NUMBERS GET IN YOUR WAY

btw from bush coming into office to the peak in 08...bush's admin created 5.7 million jobs
jan 2001 132.6 million employed
jan 2008 138.3 million employed
Interesting dates that you are selecting, because by Jan 2009 the number was 133.9, so the net for the Bush years would be 1.3 million. As of July the net so far for the Obama years therefore would be 5.1 million.

Ooops.
Ooops, the Obama administration changed the way the unemployment figures are calculated, too, to make his figures look better. Note that they are claiming (recently) that unemployment has dropped below 6%! Can anyone seriously believe that when over half the work force is unemployed?

That was not "due to necessity" as so many Leftists try to claim. Women started to enter the workforce for a career, putting off having children till later. They were called "DINKS" (Dual Income, No Kids) because they had "money to burn."

What number are you using to determine that "over half the work force is unemployed?"

to present is only less than a million

yet the population has GROWN by 12 million

yet the UE numbers are nearly the same level

for 7 years since the liberals took charge very few jobs created...yet and increasing population and more people NOT COUNTED as employed/unemployed

And, they can't find work! And neither can college grads.

This is not a "legacy" that Obama can be proud of. It is a legacy of failure on so many levels.

You wrote "btw from bush coming into office to the peak in 08...bush's admin created 5.7 million jobs."
The point I was making if you are going to talk about the jobs created during an administration then you should cover the whole period of the administration.

As for the 5.1 million jobs created during Obama's administration, yes the whole economy almost collapsed, with trillions of dollars of lost middle class wealth and many of the top investment banks going under. It has taken along time for the economy to recover. This wasn't a typical recession and the recovery from the near collapse was never going to follow a path similar to other recessions.

The not in the labor force number has increased 12 million in since Jan 2009, the largest segment of that increase is among retirees and the disabled.

Geeze, the far righties can't handle any sort of good news. Yes, the economy is still shaky, but things have gotten better. I pity you partisans, you don't live in reality.
