I was a volunteer at a weekend long local hospital fund raising event. We processed thousands of credit cards and " declines" were far more common place this year than in the past. My own MC was declined, too.
The never ending global breaches of security of account numbers has caused banks to sometimes deactivate cards before issuing replacements or consumers ( me, in this case) don't pay attention and activate their new cards.
I use CC for everything and rarely have cash on me. I pay my balances in full and know where my money goes.

Credit card companies hate people who have cards but never use them. Many companies will cancel or put a freeze on a card if you haven't used it in a certain time period like 6 months.
Politics and other controversies. This is neither. Its just yet another "lets bash Obama over something unimportant that we will make sound bad"
They just keep flinging their "stuff" in the hopes something will stick, it is a sign of the desperate.
