In 1900, the Federal Government controlled 5% of the economy.
In 2000, the Federal Government controlled 46% of the economy.
Today, in 2014, the Federal Government controls, 53% of the economy.
Had they passed full universal healthcare, the Federal Government would have controlled 73% of the economy. There would have been a much bigger revolt, than 2010 mid-terms were.

If you include how the businesses that make up the economy are both taxed and need a license to operate you can make the argument that the government controls 100% of the economy. The only exception would be illegal businesses... What's really that bad about regulated commerce?

The fact that healthcare even represents 18% of the economy is a failure in of itself.

The idea that the free market can solve our healthcare problem is laughable at best. Just look to other countries who have universal care. They all do it for a fraction of the cost we do it. I agree with the OP, the ACA did not go far enough. You know it's funny how conservatives like to tout "a majority of Americans don't like the ACA..." What they won't tell you is the reason that majority is not happy with it is BECAUSE it didn't give us universal healthcare. That's what a majority of Americans want. We will have it despite conservative resistance.
Good Post
What we have is Corporate Fascism.
Americans can no longer afford the expensive medical bills in this country due to decreased buying power from this Globalist Utopia brought to us by Corporate Lobbyists, so the solution from the Healthcare and Pharma Lobbyists which are flush in money (They sit at the top of the Lobbying Chain in Bribing Power) is to use Government Force to have everyone pitch in to prop them up.
It is Corporations using Government Force to prop up Private for Profit Institutions.
If I am forced to pay for it, then it needs to be non profit and the top level executives and administrations need to take a severe pay cut.
Otherwise, we get rid of it all, but Big Pharma and Insurance would scream like a stuck pig so it will never happen.
Just remember folks, money is freedom of speech and bribing politicians is legal.

And they should of course have the freedom to tell you "so sorry, not enough" and walk away, eh?

That would be the freedom to die plan, anything else would be SOCIALISM! , at least when done for an American. But do something for say an Iraqi? That's just fine & dandy.
