The governments one size fits all mentality, has messed up freedom in the USA.
What works for New York, may not work in New Mexico. What works for one group chosen for votes, may not work for another group, taking freedoms they enjoy.
Yes, why doesn't NYC get all the anti terrorist federal funding? Please tell me the number of times other cities in the US have been attacked by all Muslim terrorists.
Anyway, I'm sure you've also benefited from the one-size fits all scheme but you probably won't complain about it.
Funny thing is...back when it was $3.35/hr I did ok on it....and I wasn't in the cheapest of cities. I rented a small apartment, and was able to pay my bills. no car though.
Today?
Bwahahaha.
Seriously? The people I know making it are on food stamps, live as groups, or only rent a room. Minimum wage at $2.85 was livable.
Are you going to keep treating the symptoms of the disease, instead of curing the disease.... again?
Think about this and ask yourself, if you really want a cure... What has caused $3.35, not be worth $3.35 any longer?
The Federal Minimum Wage is a good example.
What is a living wage in, let's say, Mississippi, would be a starvation wage in Oakland. What would be a living wage in Oakland would be absolute wealth in many areas of the country.
It wouldn't be hard to figure out what the minimum would need to be across all states, and then allow each state to decide if it needs to be higher or not.
min wage should not be set federally...one size fits all
min wage IF it truly needs to be, should be set locally
$20/hr in NY is equal to about $8/hr in Alabama
Minimum wage in Oregon is $9.10, we have decided that it should be set higher than the federal minimum wage. Therefore the "one size fits all" doesn't apply to federal minimum wage. New York could set theirs at $20 if they want, and $8 would already be higher than the current federal minimum wage...which makes me wonder if you actually think it is currently too low now.

Inflation-which is vital for any modern economy. Its the whole point of why you also increase minimum wage.....
Maybe instead of showing your lack of understanding you should take some courses in economics instead of thinking it works like your personal bank account?
I have a great example we could all love, the national speed limit set at 55 in 1974 by the "Emergency" Highway Energy Conservation Act, changed in '87/'88 to 65 (guess it was no longer such an emergency) and finally repealed 1995(guess the emergency was over).

and the min wage has kept up with inflation...so your post is mute
here is the ACTUAL todays dollar calculator from the ACTUAL government (BLS (bureau of labor and statistics )
Inflation Calculator: Bureau of Labor Statistics
as you can see in 1938 the min wage was .38 (38 cents)...in todays dollars it is 6.42 (as of 17 aug 2014)
as you can see in 1950 the min wage was .75 (75 cents for those that don't understand decimals) in todays dollars it is 7.42
as you can see in 1984 the min wage was 3.35 in todays dollars that is 7.68
btw the min wage only effects about 1-2% of the working population
now if you look at median household wage
median annual household income 1970 ..... $7600
median annual household income 2013.....$51,000
big jump and progress since 1970
min wage is for unskilled
federal min wage should be zero, because one size does not fit all
I disagree. It should be set at the lowest minimum that keeps working Americans above the poverty level.
