Photo IDs for buying a gun is essential to reduce fraud. Photo IDs for voting won't cut down fraud and are racist.
The sanctity of the private ballot is important. Unions should not allow private ballots - even Public Unions for government jobs - the Union Bosses should be able to see how you vote on labor issues.
You can't check for evidence of voter fraud, because we don't have enough evidence that it is a problem, even though we don't look for it much.
Photo IDs, even when given out for free, is a form of disenfranchisement. Photo IDs for your 2nd amendment rights does not take away your 2nd amendment rights.
Photo IDs are very effective for figuring out who is who when you attend the Democratic National Convention and etc...Photo IDs can be faked and wouldn't be effective to see who is who when voting.
Western Europe is more sophisticated than the US at taking proper care of and protecting it's citizen's rights. Western European photo ID laws would be racist and anti-poor if brought here.
Blacks are less likely to figure out how to get a free ID, even though they are more likely to live within walking distance of a DMV SoS.

No one here is saying we need to do background checks for someone to vote. That is the job of the voter rolls to purge the names of people who die or go to prison.
You use photo IDs during back ground checks to make sure that the back ground check isn't fraudulent. That the person buying the gun is who they say they are.
Democrats argue for back ground checks that require a photo ID for purchasing a gun. As it is common sense that a photo ID reduces the chances of a fraudulent back ground check. They do not make some convoluted argument about how requiring a photo ID to buy a gun ruins that persons constitutional right to buy a gun.
Democrats however, then do a 180 to spout off insane logic...photo IDs are no longer helpful in determining who is who when it comes to voting. That requiring a photo ID steals a constitutional right. Etc...

I thought it was obvious I was showing the insane liberal leap of logic that the other poster was doing.

If that is the case, why don't the right wingers support a National Photo ID? That would solve all of their problems they have with voting. Every American would be required to get one at the age of 18 and it would be good anywhere in the country.

Me. To create and administer such a program would require another certainly mismanaged over budgeted federal agency. Throw in the privacy and 10th amendment ramifications and it's DOA with a significant number of Americans.
