In general blacks are less educated than whites and so they qualify for a smaller set of jobs than whites do. This will manifest itself even in areas of similar income, such as for example a low level white collar employee might make a similar wage to a higher level blue collar union factory worker but the factory worker's job is in much more jeopardy than the office worker's is.
The Chinese and the Irish that migrated to the US at one point could fit into many of these points you bring up. They had major prejudice against them, hatred, obstacles to climb yet overcame it all and didn't use excuses perpetually. And they didn't have affirmative action either.
The Chinese and Irish were (not) slaves. There has never been an ethnic group in American history that has been so oppressed, hated, and discriminated against as black Americans.

Blacks hate whites. Think about how you talk about whites when they turn their back. You bi*tch about them if they're nice or not. Blacks can be downright rude to whites.
BTW, in terms of all history and globally, I have heard the claim that more non-black people have been sold as slaves than black people.
I do not know the source of the numbers for this claim.
It would seem both reasonable and logical, though, since much of Africa did not participate in global economic matters (very little trade) as compared to, say, Asia and Europe and the Middle East.
However, it's historical trivia.
It has no relevance, however, to why an inner city kid rejects education, and turns to crime.

Those that see an education as a way out of the getto, are ridiculed by those that feel they are above education.
Some make it out and become doctors, engineers, chemists, lawyers. They never look back to help, or get labelled an Uncle Tom.

If you go to a white neighborhood and ask a child what he wants to be when he grows up he says "I want to be a doctor, firefighter, park ranger, engineer."
If you ask a child in a poor black neighborhood the same question many will say "I want to be a pimp, drug dealer, ex.ex.."
A white child sees the doctors and engineers around him living well, but in a poor black child's world he sees drug dealers and pimps living well.
Poor black neighborhoods and the world we all live in are very, very, very different places.

That I think is a byproduct of the narrow, limited identity that too many blacks have of themselves. This won't change until those blacks get a broader view of blackness. Maybe this negative attitude towards education comes from what they haven't been exposed to? I think it would help a lot if younger black kids get exposed to blacks inventors and scientist at an early age. Then they won't grow up thinking that science stuff is not for them because they're black.
