You must've forgotten about me. I support neither of these and am proudly fiscally conservative.

I believe this board leans socially conservative, yet fiscally liberal.

So far, everyone seems to feel the board goes the opposite of their personal sentiments.

I love all the people who are claiming to be in the middle of the road, then are quick to place a broad generalization in attacking ONE of the sides left or right. Anyone with any brainpower can figure out your little game.. its funny... thing is.. anyone who is middle of the road is either going to have an undecided opinion about either side, or a negative opinion of both....
The underhandedness that exists in this forum is amazing... I respect those who just come out and spill their guts.. say what they think.. what they mean.. even if I don't agree with it.. and even if that pigeonholes them in being recognized as a liberal OR Conservative... making a stand for something is noble in itself.. and if you lack any opinion at all that places you somewhere in the spectrum, then you probably need to read a book or two. I don't advocate anyone be any way of thinking... but if you're really involved I think you would express more so one way or the other, or be openly expressing about both... and not bagging on anyone... If you're really down the middle 100% then I challenge you all to enlighten us more often... but don't claim to be down the middle then attack a side... its tacky and transparent...

Well is not a middle of the road approach an opinion or viewpoint unto itself? Why does it have to fall into some category of either this way or that way in order to be justified as a valid perspective?

I think your whole statement is, how did you put it, a "Broad generalization".

I'm in the middle. I think conservative and liberal idealism is one-sided. IMO, the best thing for America is to take ideas from both sides and create your own angle.

For instance:

Conservative:I don't agree with the government forcing a smoking ban on privately owned businesses

HOWEVER

Liberal:I think that the government should offer a National Health Insurance program that is not limited by income (to compete with the free market).

Being in the middle isn't about not having an opinion, it's about not fully agreeing with either side. And I don't just attack one side. I attack both for being ignorant children who are afraid of each other's "cooties".

Yes, exceptions always exist (The "Pro Gun" Democrat or the "Pro Universal Health Care" Republican), but the issues themselves tuck fairly neatly into the various labels that tag them.
Think about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am curious, how many of you are now the same party as your parents?

The theory in political science is that people learn things like religion and political leanings from their parents and don't take the time to think for themselves.

I submit that maybe its time to think for yourelf rather then allowing others to spoon feed you.

I'd say it's about 50/50.

Why is this? There are probably lots of factors involved, but I'm guessing that part of it has to do with the fact that right-wingers are generally productive members of society, so they have less time to surf the web and post on message boards. Also, left wingers are often much more vocal about their issues, while right wingers are generally more content to just live their lives and as long as they are not directly being bothered, they don't like to bother anyone else.

Of course, there are exceptions; I am speaking in very broad generalizations, but I still think these ideas do explain my observations.
I disagree; the right-wingers on this forum are VERY vocal, particularly on issues concerning poverty and immigration. The right-wingers are obviously not content, as they are just as vocal as those who lean to the left.

This forum is 50/50....plain and simple (and that's a GOOD thing).
