A very prominent Democrat talking point (at least if you watch MSNBC or read HuffPost or Salon) is that non-Whites who vote Republican are voting against their own self-interest, against their own race. It's like the racial identity of a non-White person includes being a Democrat. This mode of thinking seems very condescending as if these Democrats believe that non-Whites who vote Republican can't think for themselves (which is an interesting thought considering they are going against the mainstream).

I personally don't have party loyalty. I've voted for candidates with a D, R, or I because I felt they represented me the best. Good candidates in my opinion can come under different letters behind their name. I think looking at issues is more important than simply towing the party line and claiming you have to stay loyal.

What I feel is ridiculous about some Democrats saying this is that it just makes non-Whites who didn't vote for them to be too stupid. It's like a "well you rejected us so we don't want you anyway!" mentality. Almost as if Democrats take it personally when minorities don't vote for them and as if the Democrats are entitled to the minority vote. What are your thoughts?

I think it is insulting to non whites when the Dems expect to get votes from them and the way they do this is by giving lots of perks and aid to them. There are not too many folks out there that don't think Obamas push for amnesty to millions of illegals is not a push to secure more democrate votes.
The dems approach to securing votes is insulting because they think that non whites are not smart enough or capable enough to make it in America without Gov. handouts.

There is no shortage of idiotic remarks made by politicians across party lines.

Those into partisanship have a tendency to get out their broad brush and paint/ taint the entire party with the remark.

That seems to be the way a lot of people roll.

In a sense they are voting against their own self-interest, considering the fact that they will "get more stuff" if they vote democrat. The problem is that in the long run they'll be hurt. I think anyone thinking short term/instant gratification will vote for whoever promises them the most. Looking long term however, giving people things they haven't earned hurts them more than anything.

It's think that's a general principle of life. It applies not only to this situation, but in all areas. Kids who are given what they want without earning it almost always become spoiled or accustomed to not having to work for it. If you're a natural athlete and you get by at the lower levels without training and eating healthy, you won't be prepared for the higher levels when you need to do those things to keep up with your competition.

No, it was never about "getting more stuff."

It is a known fact that 99% of the American population is not served by the GOP economic agenda. This has nothing to do with race. The correlation comes that minorities are disproportionately poor, meaning the benefit even less than the average person from the GOP economic agenda. Tax cuts for the wealthy don't help anyone except the wealthy.

Anyone can research the vitriol and name calling directed at minority citizens, especially prominent citizens, that admit to being Republican to know that there is absolute hate for those minorities that leave the Democratic party and speak out against the party's policies. Anyone who denies that is not being honest.

Ummm... that's just it. Black Republicans don't speak out against Democratic policies. They don't even know what "Democratic policies" are. Feel free to enlighten us as to these policies.

How about Republicans actually convey their esteemed policies to blacks? All we ever hear is slave euphemisms, condemnation, and finger-pointing at Democrats. It won't win any black votes likening us to being in shackles.

There are Black, Hispanic and Asian Republicans, many prominent citizens, who are and have been articulate about their political affiliations. I won't name them or try to convince you further.
