Today’s key fact: you are probably wrong about almost everything

A scientific poll was done concerning people's perceptions of certain issues versus the actual numbers. The result was most people either vastly underestimated or overestimated certain numbers of issues like immigrant population, Muslim population, unemployment, etc. What stood out to me was of the 14 countries surveyed, the US was the 2nd most ignorant country, behind Italy, and ahead of South Korea. Two examples I noticed; Americans think 15% of the US population is Muslim, but the reality is only 1% of Americans identify as Muslim. Another one, 32% of the US is foreign born (no doubt this number is inflated thanks to Hispanophobia), but 13% is the real number. There's more in there that just shows Americans in a pretty bad light about most hot button issues, especially in regards to teenage pregnancy and unemployment. Seems like the media is failing us across the entire political spectrum if the numbers are this bad

Something we probably could have guess.

Half of it is the media; half of it is willful ignorance.

How can we be so ignorant yet stay so powerful?

People are watching the E! Channel, comedians for news, song and dance shows, and too busy tweeting and uploading selfies to know better. Is it that surprising?

Yes, our mainstream press has become downright pathetic. It's like they don't even try anymore.
