Panic buying last year ("they are coming for our guns!") has died off and gun stores are left holding unsold inventory. Lobbyists need to poke their political puppets and talk radio shills to get the fear level back up.
Last year Sturm, Ruger CEO Michael Fifer complained about retailers placing "grossly unrealistic" orders with his company. Fifer called out "that guy with $25,000 worth of credit line hoping he's going to get $100 million worth of product before the surge ended."
I'd venture to say that in all ikelihood, people buying smartphones get more use out of their purchases than those who hoard firearms..........
Well, a similar argument was made in support a few years ago when I was asking my FB friends about the "wisdom" of buying a $300+ buffalo hide cape that might not see use more than once a year....if that at all.
Or say a heavy lift pick up truck that is used perhaps 4 time in one month a semester.
Or perhaps Mega telephoto lens that is used once a year.
The thing is, if you can afford to have such things for a specific joy...........WHY NOT?
Guess the gun industry needs another American panic.
Actually, liberals need to get off the gun grabbing frenzy they are obsessed with. On top of that, blue states need to back off the anti gun laws they inact as they do nothing as far as law abiding citizen are concerrned. We let you do your LGBQT thing - let us have our firearms.

Well, Toyman seemed to make an argument based on the utility value of smartphones vs. firearms. If we're talking recreational purchases, that's of course a different kettle of fish.

Perhaps, about the utility value.
It is sort of an apples and oranges comparison, though....................considering that many are still using a pistol design that is over 100 years old. Or a rifle design, here or there, that is over 60 years old or so.
Granted, I use a Razor as my cell phone, but that's a pretty far cry of saying the comms of what I use and what most people use aren't that far apart and still work decently for the person................
....................since it would be hard pressed to say that about communications 60 years ago.....let alone 100.
Finally, what's the oldest pistol I've fired? A 50's era Llama, worked just fine....as far as Llama's go, that is.
But can we say that about any electronics? About most cars?
'Barack Obama, Gun Salesman of the Year'. I love it.
