I'll believe the job market is healthy when the threads are not about the struggle to find a job, but about the long hours, unqualified coworkers, and deciding whether to quit after getting a better offer.

You seem willing to blame anything but your own unrealistic expectations: that, and the idea that Big Brother, Barry-O and his WonderPets can get something for you out of a hoard of stolen cash -- somewhere.

While some data seems to show improvement the Unemployment data is much manipulated (definitions et al) I'd advise people to check out John Williams Shadowstats and read his section on "Primers on Government Economic reports"

Shadow Government Statistics - Home Page

If you look at the big picture it is still lingering around 22-23 percent total unemployment. An interesting trend to show would be the dramatic rise in the ranks of those collecting SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance). Here's something from 2006.

http://economics.mit.edu/files/6345

There is a confluence of trends making overall human labor (and the investment in it) obsolete across many industries.

Longer life span for humans (in general)
Compressed life cycle of human skill sets being viable in the employment arena
Technological efficiency usurping need for labor
Real cost of education (traditional means) being a negative leveraged model to its long term benefit (many fields)
Depressed real wages (supply / demand)
Combined with inflation in marginal unit costs across much of everyday items - which, conveniently, are not part of the CPI calculation (food and fuel)

Human labor is being rendered obsolete at an accelerated rate due to technology, automation and global labor arbitrage.

Factcheck.org on Obama and jobs and the economy :

Median household income declined 4.6 percent during Obama’s first five years, and nearly 5.5 million more Americans were living in poverty last year than before he took office.

It has been shown that African-Americans are doing WORSE under Obama the EXACT demographic that voted for him in droves and were looking for hope and change.

Corporate profits are up almost 200 percent but the average wage of the worker has only gone up less than a percentage point when you adjust for inflation.
Actually no. Just like last month's report, there are more better paying jobs in the mix which is a good thing to prove that there is no real anomaly with Septembers's gains and that these gains. I am not saying this as an Obama supporter, I didn't even vote for him either time. I have been quoted around here bringing up CNN Fact Checks with the types of jobs lost under Obama's first six months vs. jobs created under Obama since (up to the election) with a three to one ratio of low wage jobs to middle and high wage jobs. These last two months are steps in the right direction and I can only hope they continue.

There may come a time in which it is prudent to mandate a certain amount of human labor even though technology has made that labor obsolete.

Other countries have done this where factories are required to have a certain amount of production produced by manual labor as opposed to mechanically.

I'm sure some people will say that is insanity, but if the labor mismatch continues to grow what do you do? Let people languish in the streets? And also, eventually, there will reach a point where the market that has the money to purchase the goods and services produced contracts enough to start shrinking the overall economy. One could probably argue that is happening now, but I think it is offset globally at this point by growth in overseas markets.

Either that or enforce some sort of long term strategy to reduce the overall population. Again, people will say that is insanity, but if most people support themselves through employment and a large swath of their labor (employment) is no longer needed then technically they are obsolete in the market. Solution? Shrink the supply by discouraging continued population growth.

I think, if most people sit down a look at the larger picture instead of a short term 5-10-20 year snapshot, it becomes apparent that there are significant long term structural issues facing us as not only a country but as a global economy as technology rapidly replaces the need for human labor. And until that labor becomes cheaper than the technology the market, absent other pressures, is not going to bode well for much of the population.

Sounds nice but the fact is just to keep up with population growth we need to add 143,000 jobs every month.

The bolded not going to happen.

For one, no one has a solution to these issues that will please everyone. We live in a country with over 300 million people. There will always be enough people around to whine about a particular solution that none of them will ever be implemented.

For two, people simply can't handle that amount of negativity (just read this forum on a daily basis and see how people who point out clear facts about the bad shape of our economy are demonized as having a dour perspective or being doom & gloomers). They'd rather ignore the problems facing us and hope they'll go away on their own, or that they'll be dead and long gone before these problems effect them...

Thankfully, when the GOP takes the reigns again, they will put an end to all this "green" insanity.

Good for them and bad for us drilling and fracking more dirty oil, with fracking being THE worst of all.
Mid American Energy in Iowa has invested billions of dollars in WIND turbines, putting some of that hated "green" technology to work!
How much now?

Let's look at some numbers:

Iowa as of 2013 produces about 28% of the electrical needs of the whole state using just WIND turbines!
Mid American Energy has announced the further investment of more than 400 additional wind turbines which will directly create 1,000 construction jobs to begin with.

Mid American Energy has started construction on five projects in Iowa totaling over 1,000 MW of capacity. The projects, expected to be completed by the end of 2015, are in O'Brien, Marshall, Webster, Grundy, and Madison counties. This will involve construction of 448 wind turbines manufactured by Siemens. At a cost of some 1.9 billion dollars, this will be Iowa's largest economic development project to date.

A number of companies involved in the windpower industry have office or manufacturing facilities in Iowa. Blades for wind turbines are manufactured in Newtonby TPI Composites and in Fort Madison by Siemens. Turbines are manufactured in West Branch by Acciona. Towers are also manufactured in Newton by Trinity Structural Towers. Companies manufacturing other parts for wind turbines are located in Iowa as well.
In addition to manufacturing, various companies support the development of wind power projects.
The wind power industry employs 6,000 to 7,000 people in Iowa.
Nearly $10 billion has been invested in Iowa's wind power projects and manufacturing facilities.

As a result of all of this, Google has built a huge server farm, in Iowa to take advantage of the cheap plentiful power, Facebook- same story, investing in new operations in Iowa directly due to the wind farms and cheap power.

I pay about 8.6 cents a KWH for my electric, compare that to your own. I use about 800 kw a month, and not including the base $8.50 meter charge you have to pay whether you use 1 kw or a million- the cost is about $68 for all the electric in my 2 br 1,000 sq ft house, I also have 2 computers and associated equipment running 24/7 as well as lights etc

Green energy is here to stay and will expand, Mid American Energy is planning to add more wind turbines yet, and why not? once the tower and turbine are up the wind is FREE and non polluting, wind can happen day, night, summer , winter, unlike solar which doesn't work at night, works poorly on cloudy days and during the winter when the sun is low.
WIND power definitely has the edge here.

You might notice too, the turbines are made right here in Iowa by Iowa companies who started up and expanded, hiring many new employees directly because of the wind turbine demands, not some factory in CHINA!

Teenage recovery?
