Why are people of Western European descent called "White" and not peach, olive, cream, yellowish tinted, reddish tinted, pinkish tinted, off white, slightly tanned, pale(ish), beige, light beige, or any other color that would more accurately describe their skin.

I often like to hold a white sheet of paper up to a person of Western European descents skin when they're not looking and I haven't seen one, not even the lightest of Western European descended people, whose skin was as light as a white sheet of paper.

Furthermore, why are "Black" people called black? From Will Smith to Alicia Keys to Samuel L. Jackson to Wesley Snipes to Drake to Beyonce to Tiger Woods and everything else in between. It seems a bit silly that people of Western European descent have set up and created such inaccurate descriptions of both themselves and others. What are your thoughts on the matter?

why are blacks called black, and not coffee, chocolate, brown, beige, light brown, yellowish brown... etc

can you imagine how many races there would be if we all had to identify our exact color? LOL

Blacks aren't black, Indians aren't red and Asians aren't yellow.

So hey white folks...welcome to the club.

Because of American English. If you speak my native tongue (Russian) properly. People of African descent belong to group called "Negros". That world is not offensive or meant to be. Calling some-one black or white is offensive jargon.

There is a scientific explanation to the word "Black" Basically a black hole traps light, there fore it's black. No person can possibly be truly black (Like a black hole) . White is the opposite, it's a translucent light. A truly white person is some-one you can see thought. Like an invisible man.

In US Blacks where oppressed and negro is an offensive word, that's why in American English we even use the word Black when describing a people. Would an Asian be offended if you call em Yellow?

I try to refer to people by their names, myself. So words like black or negro are not the words that I typically use.

*** If some one is offended by my use of negro above, not meant to be offensive in any way, peace to you man !
