Not that I'm aware of, but thats the point. This should be a local decision, not a national outrage.

Default School Sports on Jewish Holy Days

I worked in a Florida school district which did not close on Jewish holy days. The Jewish students and teachers just took off, unlike in New York which has a large population of Jews and the schools are closed for major Jewish Holidays.

Problem with just taking the time off? School sports went on. The Jewish students did not show up for practices and games on their holy days. Seems some Christian parents and coaches got their feathers ruffled with this. Hello, get a calendar and don't schedule a game on others religious holy days, or if you don't want to go to this much trouble, then TOUGH. Live without these athletes when they observe THEIR holy days. Far too many people think we are a "Christian nation" and refuse to BUDGE for anyone but themselves.

That was the Islamic argument in this case exactly. The school, montgomery county Maryland I believe, had a large number of Jewish students leave school during the two holidays on their calender. So, instead of having a 20% absentee rate, they shut the school down. The Muslims simply wanted the same treatment. Thats not exactly them saying "you have to drop Christian and Jewish holidays from the calendar".

The school board made that decision. Whats good for Christians should be good for Jews, should be good for Muslims in our free country, correct?

What is the US Board of Education?

The Montgomery County board of Educaion, elected by the people, voted to remove religious references on their calendar.

Do you live in this county?

Yes, but the 'Kentucky Derby Festival' runs for 2 weeks! My daughter lived in Louisville for several years and she told me my grandson got out of school then,as the schools close because of all the traffic ect. They make it a HUGE,HUGE deal, and for some crazy reason people come from all over the world to attend the celebration and see the race!

No, i'm assuming that a local district made a decision for their local area. That's how it's supposed to be.

It was a local school board that made the decision.
