Did you know the US will soon be the largest oil producer on the planet?
Which kind of points out that we did not in fact have to open up new lands for drilling, AND that as was pointed out at the time we should not as they had sufficient options for places to drill.
That may not seem like a lot in the context of a $17.5 trillion U.S. economy, but economists say it matters because it immediately gives consumers more money to spend on other things. Consumer spending accounts for 70 percent of the U.S. economy.
They will buy newer cars now, they will drive more places, go on those vacations and spend their money in other towns and cities that have a tourist destination, they will visit National Parks more, they will go out to eat more, they will buy things that they have put off buying because they couldn't afford it...and with that increased spending, we can slowly start to see some more jobs opening up...which means more money to spend...it's about damn time this happened.

Right. That's political football. There was plenty of federal lands available, but they wouldn't drill. There are more leases to drill on federal lands today than there was in 2005, but the action is on private lands, and everyone should be happy with the way things are going on private lands. I don't see why anyone would complain, unless you're a politician and get paid to complain.

People are flocking to the SUV dealers. I hope they won't be disappointed when/if gas prices go up again
