I'm pretty sure the school curriculum would cover the fact that slavery was legal, so HappyTexan's "point" is irrelevant.

I am assuming that they also left out the fact that many blacks were, themselves, the slave owners.

All these slavery threads might give one the impression
that slavery was a uniquely American phenomenon.
Then I usually mention that there are more slaves
right now than at any time in history.

How is that relevant to an American history textbook for kids?

It isn't relevant to teach American kids what a **** pile of a nation it is that they live in. That is what is needed to be drilled in their heads.

Hey, good question. MORebelWoman, you seem to have the facts at the ready - an estimate?

Not that it shifts the fairness of the institution to one side or the other - black people can of course be as cruel and uncaring as white ones.
