Most of the western Europe live on debt, these countries will slowly fall behind and so will their living standard. Europe may look better in few countries/areas, but when we start talking about "average European within the EU" then you will understand the difference between the US and the EU.
In average in the the US you live better life and have by far more opportunities compared to the EU. Average salary in the US is officially somewhere over the 4500$ guess how much is the average income in the EU, it hardly would be 2000€ (2600$), not to mention science, research and development, quality of health care and quality of education.

In average the US is by far better than the EU, if you asked 10 people where they would like to live I bet 70-80% of them will choose the US.

That's funny I had the same thought, what catch 22 this puts your average RWNJ in, they naturally hate anything Europe and consider it a communist society, at the same time talking up the US would mean that Obama has not destroyed it yet.

Some of the police stats can be explained quite well. This one cannot and is probably the single biggest cancer in America. And BTW, it's not just small towns. It's all over the country. Here is an example;

Let me give you an example. I was in Europe for a month this Summer. The BBC widely reported that over 3000 American children are killed every year from gun accidents. If you do a little research you will find that the actual number is less than half that. A huge portion of BBC reporting about the USA is negative and focuses on guns, smoking and anything that is not "European". They exaggerate every gun issue and every crime issue and every smoking issue. They highlight every American problem (and yes, there are many of them). After listening to the BBC for a month, I was pretty depressed about my country. People in Europe getting a daily dose of the BBC are convinced that the USA is a violent wasteland where everybody smokes and shoots each other.

So yes, the BBC is very biased.

I think its just that right wingers want to see pro-American stuff all the time. If it were up to them they'd have most channels be like Fox News. It would be nothing but congratulatory news toward the United States and positive stuff 24-7.

So when people like that see any criticism of the US they think that it's anti-American propaganda.
Sorry to disappoint you but I never watch Fox News. Why do you watch it?

What do you want them to report on? The potato harvest in Idaho? Basically all media report mostly on negative things, not just from the US, but from around the world. You just focused on reports on the US when there because you are American.
From a European, not just British, perspective there is not that much positive about the US. Naturally we think our continent is the best, just like Americans think their country is the best. So Americans keep talking about how Europe is socialist, how many unemployed there are, etc. And Europeans keep talking about gun violence, racism, etc. in the US.

Also, Europeans outside Britain don't listen to BBC. The only thing BBC one can find in some European countries are comedy programs, which revolve around British society.

Why people compare average salary of US and Europe? In the USA, few people at the top make lot of money and that completely skews the average figures. Cost of living (Transportation, Health care, College Education) is way way low in European countries as compared to USA. One can survive very well on 1000 dollars per month in Poland, how about surviving on that amount in USA? Public Transport, Cost of College Education, Cost of Health care is the worst in USA, even worse then Asia or Africa forget about Europe-people just do not want to admit it.

And no doubt there will be poor in this country, or any country with a capitalist economy. The government can't solve that and perpetuating it (like in Montgomery County, MD where the county council loves building Section 8) is not the answer. It wouldn't surprise me entirely if other places started doing the same thing.

Like I've said, I've already somewhat proven that. See posts 385 & 389.
