What do you mean by "fixing the overall situation"? What is the situation and how would you recommend fixing it?

Because that's how the Powers That Be view protests by the lower classes.

The institutional structure of poor communities breeding intergenerational poverty is the situation. I would suggest investment in those communities (sidewalks, transit, schools, jobs, social safety nets).

I thought "uppity" referred to people with attitude like Shirley Jackson Lee and Cynthia McKinney rather than John Doe protestor, and as far as investment, haven't trillions been spent of the War on Poverty? Is it true that the school systems who have received the largest outlay of $$$$ have shown the poorest return in quality education? Just wonderin'

"Uppity" refers to anyone who gets ideas above their station (in the eyes of their self-proclaimed "betters").

As far as the War on Poverty, trillions more have been spent on propogating poverty and consolidating money into as few hands as possible. As far as school systems, the problem is that a lousy home life tends to impede study no matter how much money is poured into schools. Guarantee that anyone willing to work has a job, that nobody has to grow up in a drug den or gangland shooting gallery, and that every child has access to food and shelter, and the schools will be fine. Unfortunately, a lot of people base their own self-worth on having things better than others, so they see truly ending poverty as an existential threat to themselves.

Lousy home life. Seems that in 1963, the white and black OOW-single parent rates were 8% and 25% respectively. LBJ came along and told the ladies not to chase down their babies' daddies for support because the govt. would support them. Those rates have tripled to 25% and 70% respectively.

Now many fine people have arisen from single-parent homes, but more-and-more ministers and Civil Rights people blame the breakdown of society because of the absence of two authority figures in the home. At least that's my non-scientific observation.

I'm taking it even further back to the Kennedy years. This 'entitlement thinking' needs to stop. It's as if it's never enough. No more free rides!
