It's not that black and white. Republicans did not like the Democrats' plan because they can't get the Dems to agree to closing the border. No immigration reform is workable as long as the border remains open.
Actually the bill includes closing the border. Fence all the way through, with double and triple fencing at hot-spots. Increase in electronic surveillance, more border security agents and even National Guard.

According to the above this entire brouhaha could disappear not with a bang but with a whimper:
Quote:
Administration officials estimate approximately 5 million people could apply for temporary protected status that would require a background check and hefty application fees. Those eligible could legally work in the United States for up to three years. Because Obama’s administrative changes can be erased by the next president, advocates believe many who are eligible will think long and hard before stepping forward.

Imagine you're in the US illegally. You're doing some low wage labor for cash, or maybe working under a fake social security number. It's not easy but you have a modus operandi that has worked. Now you have the option to register with the DHS, and for two years you will be able to work legally. After Jan 20, 2017 what happens is anybody's guess. Maybe the new prez builds a 2000 mile impenetrable wall, rounds up all who have registered, and sends them back home.
Do you register with DHS, or do you wait to see what happens the next 2 years?

The other problem, of course, is that Obama has lost credibility with a vast portion of the people. We don't know what part of what he says is actually true.
For example, now he says there will be greater enforcement along the border. In the past, however, the Federal government sued the states for enforcing their laws with respect to dealing with illegals.
I only want to know what will you pay the B-patrol agents needed for the border- it takes a lot of money which has been cut and re-cut over the years- as a man said, compare: the NY Police Dept- is bigger- than the Border Patrol for the same area.
Do you want to seal the border?? - FIRST stop the drugs ( get everyone in rehab)- then stop the EMPLOYERS ---then nobody has a reason to come. well-- 3rd --the sex fiends who traffic in boys n girls/women for their pleasure BIG money pays for that too-
IF you do NOT pull out the root,, NOTHING will change
I do not care what he has to say. The Constitution has just been flushed down the toilet. It is nothing to be proud of.
Yep.
I don't think anyone wants to kick people out of the Country or deport people. There is a set of laws that Govern this land and they need to be upheld. He himself has said this is against the law what he is doing.
Also, IIRC the House passed numerous bills related (be it directly or indirectly) to immigration reform. The Senate never allowed the bills be to brought up on the floor.
Whether you aggree with Obama 's action or not, one thing is certain: he is on rock-solid legal ground.
And while the Tea Party crowd may not realize it, bucking this immigration reform is political suicide for the GOP in 2016. As a number of articles this morning have pointed out, Americans in general favor the Senate immigration bill the conservatives in the House have refused to allow to come up for a vote. Obama stressed -- "Pass the bill" Its a bipartisan bill -- the kind of real cooperation America needs in Congress. It's oonly the GOP right that "isn't cooperating" on this issue.
And if the GOP wants ANY of the 15 percent of American citizens who are Hispanic to vote for them, they'd better step lightly. Immigration is a time bomb for the Republicans. And Obama just started the countdown.

That is a lame argument. Basically you are saying that Obama should be able to amend Obamacare as he pleases because it was presented by Congress . Come on now, you know better than that. The Congress in 1989 refused to change the immigration bill, so Bush Sr acted on his own. It is the mirror image of what happened yesterday.

I got some oceanfront property in Kansas to sell if you really believe that one.
Barbed wire, land mines and sniper towers is the only way to keep the border "closed".
Ever hear of wire cutters ?
