The problem with good men is that without privacy and freedoms they are no longer considered good. Instead what they call good is the "lesser-evils". Obama was elected because of McCain and his batteries and Bush was elected because he was already in office.

I always thought Jimmy Carter was a good man. A lousy president but a good man.

From there, he moved to the automobile industry as production chief for Buick. When Buick changed hands, W resigned. The new owner asked him to stay on... In charge of the whole enterprise. He did. To the tune of a more than a half million dollars. And Buick prospered.

But the head of Buick was intemperant with money. So, W left. He was hired for a MILLION a year to to try to fix Willys. But he was unable to take control away from Willys. So he left.

He then bought the ailing Maxwell.

And being a good engineer and mechanic, he hired other good men to come and fix what ailed and Maxwell survived - to be reorganized in Chrysler. Yes, he was Walter P Chrysler. One of the things most of his biographies leave out, is that WPC went looking for good men. Capable, able, and of good character.

And he hired them and let them do their jobs.

When was the last time you saw an ad for "A good man" to be put in a position of responsibility. Nope, we see demands for degrees and resumes. People without a degree from an elite university? Why, they're ignorant, can't be put in charge of important things.

And lest you think this is sexist, it has nothing to do with gender. Nothing about this leaves out women.

In politics today, there's no place left for good men. Good men (and women) make decisions and do the right thing. And they get their character and name assassinated for doing so. Look at the abuse liberals heap on Palin. Though her governorship was extraordinarily good.

When character mattered, we would never have dreamed of electing Barack Obama. Anyone. After all, he was from one of the universally known corrupt political machines in the nation. And never did anything to reduce said corruption, no, he used it to it's fullest potential to get where he wanted to go.

There is no longer any place left for good men in our society. We marginalize them, call them names, call them bigots and ignorant for having firm beliefs and not compromising them.

But when there's no place left for good men... What fills that space?
Being president is hard.

I know that you don't like Obama at all, but I don't think this is a character issue. It's more of a competence issue. For example, another poster mentioned that he thought Obama might be a great university professor. Also, there's no indication that Obama, just as there isn't with George W. Bush, that he isn't setting a great example with raising his family and things like that.

So... being president is hard. I think it takes a very arrogant person to pursue it, and that causes problems. Finding somebody for president who is competent at leadership with enough character and enough humility to accept his/her failures is a rare thing indeed.

The media elected Obummer in 2008 by not investigating the glaring blankness he presented as his background and beliefs.

They did the same with Obamacare after it's illegal enactment.

These last 2 years will have the Narcissist In Chief wreck havoc in America. He'll destroy his media and his Bots too.

Enjoy!

We sure had character back in the day--why, it didn't take anything at all to bring a whole town out to join hands and lynch someone for reckless eyeballin'. Those were the days!

True indeed. I get what your saying. The bible foretells of these character flaws leading the nations. No one quote me,im not starting a debate over my beliefs with someone.

I knew Walter P. Chrysler. Walter P. Chrysler was a friend of mine.

Sarah Palin is not Walter P. Chrysler.

That woman has zero awareness.

She stands by her sham.

Ahem.

Character mattered when countless people hired good men and gave them responsibility. Character mattered when a soldier threw himself on a mine so one died and not 5. Character mattered when we prosecuted people for not respecting the responsibility they were entrusted with and were removed or prosecuted.

Character mattered when good men did what should be done in office and took responsibility for and made decisions based on honoring the responsibilities given them.

But none of that matters to you, does it?

You have gone to great lengths to attempt to denigrate the idea that character matters.

After all, if character doesn't matter to anyone and never has, then you're free to by cynical, advocate for purely selfish reasons, and to lie with impunity... because it doesn't matter.

I've read your posts for quite a while here. If there's anything I've learned, you have no interest in truth, only in abusing people who do.
Lol...I "abused" you?

Wow.

Sadly the bigger the company the more prevalent that is. I work for a company in the top 1/2 of the Fortune 500, my office is right by one of our busiest (and loudest) recruiters so I hear things like that all the time. It's pushed by the people who bought MBAs and think business can be run 100% from a spreadsheet. Don't have at least a 3.75 from the right school and your resume won't even be looked at, much less get an interview these days. "wrong" degree or <gasp> no degree but years of experience counts for nothing if you don't already have an in at the company.

Character does count though, in some ways more than ever because most positions are filled by being recommended by someone already at the company. People won't stick their neck out and put someone in front of a hiring manager if they don't believe in the person. There may not be ads looking for 'a good man' but if you're a good man (or woman) chances are networking is going to be more valuable than your degree.

I think the smaller the company the more character counts vs the right degree or GPA. I suppose that explains why at the largest corporation (the US government) paper counts for more than character.
