Probably more a reference to MC - can't touch this.

Plenty of terminally stupid fools in this very thread...

Nobody was sued for defining a 2x4 as 1.5x3.5 inches...

It is very obvious in your blathering throughout this thread...

...liberals

that you have no idea what the suit brought against Lowes was actually about. Let me help you. http://cdnassets.hw.net/8c/b2/047957...-complaint.PDF

...pay particular attention to paragraphs 9 and 10. (Par. 10 being allegedly the central point of this thread.)

What Lowes was doing, among other things, was selling 'nominal dimensions products', i.e. a 2x4, that did not meet the minimum established dimensions, i.e. 1.5x3.5 inches.

There. Now you know. All the liberals and the state of CA are not out to get you...

Wow! 30 pages and no one even knows what the lawsuit was about! This site should explain more clearly...

because nearly everyone knows what size a stud is

the FACT is its CALLED a 2x4

its also called a STUD

the size is not important....its an industry standard

California just SCREWED every DYI'er who wishes to purchace wood as, cali (as always) has made it more expensive for the consumer

liberalism at work...screw the people

the majority of americans? i doubt it. for instance my mother was a registered nurse for 50 years. never did any carpentry what so ever, and she knows that a 2x4 is 1.5x3.5 actual size. i would bet that my brother, again someone who never did any carpentry work in his life, but rather writes and debugs software for a living also knows that a2x4 is 1.5x3.5 actual size.

as i have noted it is the industry standard and has been for several DECADES.

now along come a few morons in the state of california to screw everything up because they think they are "helping" the people, when in reality all they are doing is raising money for the state of california.

and as i posted earlier, chances are this case will force the law to be overturned on appeal, or as a result of a class action lawsuit by lumber retailers against the state of california. and of course it will cause lumber prices to rise due to the cost of the litigation all because a few law makers, and a few lawyers didnt have the common sense to find out if there was a problem in the first place, which there wasnt.

60 dollars worth of paper label signs vs 1.6 million

who is the ignorant one here ???

Why were you so stupid though? Only the stupidest of the stupid don't know the real size of a 2X4.

"Wouldn't it be ironic"
...
What if raw lumber was no longer being cut 2" x 4" ?
That to skimp, they reduced the size, and blamed the need to plane off 1/2" on "poor quality"...
...
The lumber industry abandoned previous standards back in 1992-3.
I bought 3/4" exterior grade plywood. And it WAS 3/4" thick.
Two years later, in the 3/4" pile, it was really 23"/32" thick . . .
In fact, all plywood shrank 1/32".
This I know because all my router bits suddenly were TOO BIG to make good dadoes.
This wood butcher was wroth, I might add.
