A bunch of mace on a small dog goes a long ways.

It sounds to me that the man created the situation that lead to his dog being shot.

I feel bad the dog was owned by such an idiot.

Cujo the miniature hot dog rip.. cops must be watching to many Hollywood movies these days. when it takes 8 cops to shoot a little man with a small knife 48 times, or mow down a little dog..

I don't support everything cops do. But I do hold people accountable for their actions. A man was threatening his neighbors. If he didn't do that, the SWAT officers wouldn't be there at all. A man opened his door and let his dog out. If he didn't do that, the dog wouldn't have been shot. I manage to open my front door quite a few times a day, and none of my 3 dogs ever runs out. I also don't have a front yard crawling with SWAT officers, because I don't tend to threaten my neighbors with weapons.

Perhaps the man making the threats let his dog out to actually be a distraction?

Again, I don't agree with every little thing that cops do. Far from it. But I do defend them against those that seem to support every little thing that criminals do.
^^^^^^^^This.

The dog could have actually been a distraction which may have resulted in a policeman or another person being injured.

It does suck, but it's the pet's owner that killed his dog through his actions.

Well thankfully a toddler didn't wander out of the house and distract the trigger happy heroes

If the cops had good cover like they should have in a situation like this then having a tiny dog running around shouldn't have been an issue at all. Now if it was a 100 lb. Rottie then that's a different story.

It's hard to justify shooting a small dog. Most all of us can agree on this.

We're not talking a Pitbull or Doberman that was threatening. Bad call by the cops.
The cops were moving in on the man. The cops had a K9 with them. That small dog might not be able to damage the officers in the traditional sense; however, if it were to trip them up during the breach of the front door or causing a problem with the K9 unit during apprehension could lead to direct harm to the cops.

If you hate cops, you'll never ever allow such logic to change your view.

I think a small percentage of cops are bad. I believe all cop shootings should be thoroughly investigated. I think cops who break the law should be punished for their crimes. I don't believe any cop is above the law. I also don't believe cops lives are worth less than any other person's life.

So, you believe a toddler and a dog have equal worth? I don't.

According to what was written, the cops had good cover for hours before the breach began. Once the breach began, the situation becomes incredibly dangerous and a distraction from that small dog could have created all sorts of havoc.

I'll bet you can find hundreds of videos on YouTube of people tripping over small dogs. When you have half a dozen armed officers going through a door to deal with a man threatening, for hours, to kill people, it can make the situation go bad quick.

Speaks volumes about the state of this nation that a SWAT team was dispatched over neighborly dispute.
Seems like every backwater town needs a team of tank driving armored black assassins to keep the peace.

That is interesting. I recall one time we were conducting a breach exercise and the trailing fellow tripped and feel and squeezed the trigger of his automatic rifle as he fell. All of us in front would have been killed if we were using live ammunition instead of blanks.
