Of course nowhere did I imply any such thing.
Could a toddler or child have come out of the house and posed a just as much a distraction as the dog did?

If it had been a cat, all of the swat team would have been distracted trying to kill it.

Cats are very fast.

The sad thing is, the nutcase was probably trying to save his dog by letting him out. All that stuff about siccing his dog on the cops was, obviously, a lot of bluster (obvious, due to the size of the dog).

He probably thought the dog would have a better chance of surviving outside rather than inside the house, where it might have barked at the officers and been killed for it.

Dog killing cranks hormones up, not down.

It acts as an unnecessary exacerbation.

.
The dog was distracting the officers from their duty to protect their self
from the man threating to kill others including them.

Killing the dog stops the distraction that was interfering
with the safe arrest of the man.

Police did their job ... and no people were hurt.

Sure a child could have come out, but since the life of a child is much greater than the life of a dog, it's not an apples to apples comparison.

Would you purposely swerve your car into another parked car to avoid hitting a child?

Would you purposely swerve your car into another parked car to avoid hitting a squirrel?

I bet you're surprised the cops didn't start shooting all the neighbors.

No the squirrel is dead ... then I might take it home and eat it if not tore up to bad.

I love cooked squirrel and gravy and squirrel brains.
