I don't know in what context this event happened, for instance the Police may have advised people in the area to be wary because of house break ins and issued descriptions of vehicles or suspects.
Furthermore the police aren't really at fault if they receive a call from someone stating that they have seen some one acting suspiciously and they are duty bound to react.
Any problem here lies with the individual who rang the police in the first instance and not the police themselves. Indeed I am sure the police have better things to do than having their time wasted in this manner.

I totally agree, that is was the fault of the caller, but no way should the cops have even responded to such an asinine call.To me,that is 'racial profiling and harassment'!
Either the caller is a nutcase or a racist/bigot troublemaker. They need to move their ass to lily-white Idaho,if a black guy walking down the street with his hands in his pockets "makes them nervous"!

I guess I just think differently than many: No. I have to wonder as well, why the person called the police, but I see nothing wrong with the cops checking it if the neighborhood has had a lot of burglaries recently or is known for being unsafe.

I do.. are people with their hands in their pocket when its cold out an indication tht they are a burglar? I would think they'd hav their hands out of their pocket, carrying tools of the trade..

I don't know what the initial caller said, they could have said I have seen a man matching the description of an individual seen at a previous house break in or they could have said I think he has a weapon on him. A failure of the police to respond to such a call or to take it seriously would be irresponsible.
The black guy was stopped by the police for about a minute, the Officer realised that the initial caller had been mistaken and the Officer was not unpleasant or nasty to the guy.
