The government needs to tax road use at an appropriate level to build and maintain the roads. Nothing more, nothing less. Road use should be revenue neutral.
I agree.

I think it is, it's a giant shell game and there is so many differences between the states it's ridiculous.
Ohio has an amendment to its constitution that prevents road taxes from being used on anything other than road construction and maintenance. But that doesn't prevent ODOT from getting billions of dollars elsewhere to keep building more roads.
It's a poor choice, if they can't afford it. Are you suggesting that the government keep the price of gas lower, so that they can maintain their lifestyle?
The government while indirectly with it's monetary policy does affect the price of gas, they do not set it. Is it your desire that they do? (We have to start with factual statements to have a discussion)
Besides, the argument is that right now they can better afford it, you want the government to tax it so they can't.
Actually... 400 sq. feet is enough. We lived for the last 10 years quite comfortably in less than that. (My RV). Now... we bought another home (over 3000 sq ft) and the quality of life isn't that much different.
RV living was *your* choice. Seems you grew tired of it.

Actually it was out of necessity. It is what it is... The fact is that people can make a life in whatever they have to. Would I do it again? Not by choice.. but if need be.. then I could. The fact that folks here are arguing over how much sq. footage you have to live is kind of ridiculous no?

No.

The government wants to increase the gas tax, so that it comes closer to paying for roads, while the pain of doing so would be less, since gas prices are currently low. But some feel the gas tax shouldn't be raised, and roads continue to be subsidized to a greater extent, because an increased gas tax would adversely affect the people who depend on roads more.

No. It's not any of our business how others choose to live. You lived and traveled in a gas guzzler. Should I be condemning that?

400 sq ft isn't enough, unless you have nothing, that is the only way living in a tiny place like that would work.
