I had my first kidney stone in my 30's so this is back around 1990. I had 1 night in the hospital and about 2 weeks later the lithotripter to bust it up. It was approx. 12mm in size, so it would not pass through.

The national average for lithotripter for kidney stone is $17000.00. Its even more expensive if you have to have it surgically removed.

I repeat I was in my 30's.

But that would have been BY CHOICE.. to pretend there wasnt other policy options pre ACA is a complete LIE..

But thats the billed amount, not the paid amount. Thats what most people dont understand. They see a hospital bill and think thats actually what gets paid when in reality, its not even close...

Because I kept getting priced out when the plan would renew, so he would go looking for something I could afford. As a single buyer, without the benefit of an employer group, you were at the mercy of insurance companies. I never made a single claim, but when it reached $800 a month for a really basic plan, I finally just gave up and went without it for more than 10 years.

The plan I have now is ten times better at about an eighth of the cost.

I never said there weren't other options. I said the cheapest policy would hit you with the $20K deductibles.

Thats because as you just admitted, someone else is paying the other 7/8th of the cost..

Just because you arent paying "your fair share", doesnt mean its not being paid..

What I find with ACA is those getting handouts, LOVE the plan, those who arent.. hate it..

So you screw 300 million americans to give 8 million insurance.. yeah, it made about as much sense as crashing your car into a tree because you were low on gas..

Yep I'd like to see someone making $20k a year come up with $6k. That's $1,920 in premiums. Of course the rest of us will pay for that but if they get sick now they have to live an entire year on $14k

Nice going grubbers. If you supported Obamacare... SUFFER!

I had a catastrophic policy with a $100K deductible. It worked for me, now I have nothing..

Yes of course you are right. Being a part of a healthcare plan, will automatically get you a better deal.

My main point was to show that even in our 30's we are not immune to the unexpected medical event which can be expensive.

And yes a person can negotiate a better rate.

I am confident that you are the superior negotiator.

And they aren't going to come up with the money to pay a hospital bill, that ultimately gets pass on to those with cash or with insurance.
