"The energy industry and coal-producing states are projecting a wave of power plant closures in the final two years of the Obama administration as Environmental Protection Agency regulations take hold. The goal of the agency's campaign is to cut down on carbon pollution. However, industry groups and agencies say the EPA’s demands are simply too difficult to meet and will lead to powering down many facilities -- eliminating hundreds of jobs and hurting cash-strapped state economies."
37 states will see closures.
170 plants closed/closing/converted to other purposes
72 gigawatts of electric generating capacity going offline (enough electrical generation capacity to reliably power 44.7 million homes – or every home in every state west of the Mississippi River, excluding Texas)
Do you foresee your electric bill skyrocketing now? Unfortunately, it's a campaign promise Obama is keeping.
Assuming she runs, will this impact Hillary Clinton's campaign, that is, losing the blue collar vote because I seem to recall she counted on their vote in 2008 when she ran against Obama? Because, in addition to dodging Keystone in a speech (apparently, the only part of her speech to make the news) she made this week to a conservation group, she said this:
“You pushed for and rallied behind President Obama’s use of the Clean Air Act to set the first ever federal limits on carbon pollution from existing power plants, which are driving the most dangerous effects of climate change. As you know so well, power plants account for about 40 percent of the carbon pollution in the United States, and therefore must be addressed. And the unprecedented action that President Obama has taken must be protected at all cost." Hillary Clinton
I suspect union bosses will encourage their members to continue to vote Democrat. Those union members who pay attention to the news will never again vote Democrat for federal office (congress & president).

UMWA always has voted dem,but they are about done..scab mines out number union mines big time now and Bob Murray is raiding their pensions left and right..UMWA is on its way to being a memory.
The union doesn't have a vote. I think the vote in Southern WV shows how the coal miners are going to vote. At least until the GOP throws them under the bus also.
Coal is a declining business. We need to help retrain mine workers, but mining coal is bad for the country and bad for the workers. Time to move to the 21st century.

The vast majority of our power plants are coal fired,so I can't see us quitting on coal in my lifetime.

But, the Number 1 issue in the country thoughout Obama's reign has been jobs and he has largely ignored the public by pushing a job killing agenda and now here comes Mrs Clinton sticking with and loving President Obama's EPA job killing policies/regulations. Her speech is my first political ad if I'm her opponent. I'd call it The Tone Deaf Democrats or Obama/Hillary: Two Peas In A Pod.
