How Democrats Can Get Their Mojo Back | RealClearPolitics

...love the bit about while so many democratic candidates were talking about abortion rights, birth control and the so-called GOP war on women, a majority of voters were worried about the economy and stagnant wages and job growth:

A snippet:

"Talk About Things People Actually Care About

When the main concern among voters, according to exit polls, was the economy, top Democratic campaigns were focused on abortion, contraception, and running from the president. Despite signs of economic improvement, voters all over the country weren’t feeling it personally. Democrats failed to adequately respond to that anxiety, and ultimately failed to win votes.

“We saw elections where strong pro-choice women went to the polls and elected vehemently anti-choice Republicans because we are in this historic period of middle-class economic insecurity, where people’s paychecks are paramount in their decisions,” said Rep. Steve Israel of New York, who ran House Democrats’ campaign arm."

I think this is right on. I'm seeing a lot of talk on various message boards agreeing that the Democrats need to worry less about social issues and focus on talking up raising the minimum wage and strengthening the middle class, as well as protecting social security and medicare. Those issues can be winners for the Democrats. Talking about abortion or the "war on women" doesn't resonate with voters currently worried about paying their mortgage or sending their kid to college, and they definitely don't resonate with seniors living on a fixed income and worried about how they'll pay for their latest medication.

The problem with that is .... Democrats want to destroy the middle class.

Things have gotten so bad that Democrats that aren't living off the system can see it and are starting to care. There's more to life than what you cared about when you were 18-22.

I used to hear old timers (80-100) when I was a kid telling middle aged Democrats to grow up.....your 60 now. LOL
